LADIES AND LOCAL BODIES

(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 27. A well-attended meeting of women was held to-day for the purpose of nominating two women candidates for the forthcoming elections. It was unanimously decided to ask Miss E. Melville lo allow herself to be nominated for a seat on the City Council, and Dr Florence Keller for one on the Hospital Board. Miss Melville said lhat she was prepared to contest the election, but it must be clearly understood that she did go as an independent candidate, and solely as a woman seeking to represent the citizens, and more particularly the women citizens of Auckland. Dr Florence Keller said that she was pleased to be nominated for the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. Purity of administration would be her first concern were she elected.
