ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
SKELETON FOUND ON RIVERTOH BEACH. The remains of a human body wer* found on Hie Riverton Beach between. Hi.MO and 11 o'clock yesterday morning. All that remained of the body was the skeleton, all the liesh being gone. It is thought tiiat most probably the body is that of an old man who went missing from Riverton about a fortnight ago, but so far as can be ascertained llu* body lias not yet been identified. A NARROW ESCAPE. WANGANUI. March 2f. Mr T. H. James, architect, and Jams* McHeesney, contractor of Marton, bad a miraculous escape from being killed this morning. While crossing the railway line at Marton the Main Trunk express dashed along. An effort was made to turn the trap clear, but the engine struct the horse, cutting it clear from the trap and killing it instantly. The occupants of the trap were thrown out. McHeesney was cut on the iiead and. rendered insensible, while James found himself alongside the metals with the carriage steps just passing over his body. He ia suffering very much from shock.
