Cabled advice has been received to the effect that the Shaw-Savili steamer Kumara, which left Auckland for London on the 2nd February, has arrived Home. The Hurunui, which left Wel--1 lington for London via way ports on the 11th February, arrived at her destination on the 23rd March. The Union Company’s R.M.S. Moana, which left Wellington for San Francisco, via Raratonga and Papeete, on the 18th February, arrived at the Californian port on Thursday, the 20th March, due date. Yesterday the Essex arrived in Lyttelton from Liverpool, via ports, to discharge, proceeding afterwards to Tlmaru to complete unloading. She will then go to Bluff to load, her programme following with Plcton, Wanganui, Waltara and Wellington. She is scheduled to arrive In Wellington on April 17, and leaves there four days later for Tlmaru and Lyttelton. The Essex will sail finally Homeward from Lyttelton on April 30. The latest purchase by the Union Steam Ship Company is a fine type of modern ccrgo carrier. She was the Glf- . fard, but will now be known in the Red Funnel fleet as the Waitomo. She was built in 1911 at Howdon-on-Tyne by the Northumberland Steamship Building Company, and was engined by Richardson's, Westgarth and Company. The Qlflard was owned by A. Weir and Co. Her gross tonnage is 4214, and her net register is 2719 tons. Shq Is 380 feet in length, 49ft. in beam, and 26.4 ft in depth. Her engines develop 372 n.h.p. The Scales liner Clan Stuart, which was due to load In New Zealand about the end of March, has arrived at Mauritius, on her way from Africa, with her main shaft seriously damaged. As repairs will result in considerable delay, Messrs Scales have arranged for the steamer Clan Menzies to take the New Zealand loading berth. This steamer la due at Cape Borda, near Adelaide, In a few days for orders, and on arrival there will proceed to Port Plrie for a parcel of concentrates. After loading concentrates at Port Plrie the Clan Menales will proceed to Port Chalmers, where she Is due on April Bth, From that port the vessel proceeds to Wellington and Auckland to complete Homeward loading, and will be despatched from Auckland on or about April 18th for London, to catch the July stiles.

Advice has been received stating that the Canadian-Australasian Royal Mail steamer Zealandia sailed from Vancouver on Wednesday afternoon for Auckland and Sydney, via way ports. The vessel has on board 25 passengers for all ports, and also 300 tons of cargo for distribution throughout New Zealand. This will be the Zealandia’s last trip In the Vancouver service, for, on arrival at Sydney on 12th April, she will be withdrawn, and will then probably enter the West Australian trade. In place of the Rlverlna. This latter vessel will, it la understood, bo transferred to the Syd- | ney-Auckland service, in succession to either the Victoria or Wlmmera. The I new 13,500-ton liner Niagara is to take I up tho Sydney-Vancouver running, having been specially constructed to suit [

} the growing requirements of the trade. She left Plymouth some days ago for Melbourne and Sydney, via Durban, and is duo at Sydney about the middle of April. Departure from the New South Wales port on her outward maiden voyage will be taken on the sth May. She should arrive at Auckland on the morning of the 9th Msy, and Is scheduled to continue her trip the same day.
