LATE SPORTING.
s PIO-EOK FLYXBTG. The members of Hie local Homing Pigeon Society held a race for young hen birds from Waipahi to Invercargill yesterday. Seventy-five pigeons, owned by eleven members, were released by the slationmasler at - o'clock, the weather being clear with a light easterly wind. The distance from Waipahi is 17 miles airline, and the weather being favourable throughout the racing area, enabled the homers to accomplish the journey in 77, minutes. The winning bird, Express, is owned and bred by Mr G. Peace, who deserves to be congratulated on winning the race. Next in position came Mr G, Driscoll with Brown Owl. bred by Mr G, Pay from the best of stock, while Mr .1. Muir's Elya way arrived home rhird. The following are the velocities of the three placed birds: Ist—Mr G. Peace's Express. 1104 yards per minute. 2nd —Mr G. Driscoll’s Brown, Owl, 1105 yards per minute. 3 r( j—Mr .1. Muir’s Flyaway, 1102 yards per minute. The other lofts timed in in the following order; —Messrs Harper. Pay, Cox. Strang, Rodgers, Dunlop, Burnett and Neilson. CBICEBT. SCHOOL FIXTURES. The following are the fixtures arranged for next Saturday, March 15th; — Seniors —Marist v. Middle. Teviot St.; South v. Technical, T.M.C.A.; High A,, a bye. Juniors—South Rv. Park, Rugby Park - : Tishury and Clifton v. Middle, South School; Waikiwi, a bye.
