RECIPROCITY
CANADA AND AUSTRALIA. (For United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 12. The Hon. G. K. Foster. Minister of Trade and Commerce for Canada, arrived by the Makura. He joins the Empire Trade Commission and proceeds to Australia'to discuss with the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth reciprocity between Canada and Australia. He said (.hat he could not say what would be the basis of negotiations. He was just going to talk tilings over with Mr Fisher. THE PROBABLE EFFECT. AUCKLAND. March I*. Mr Foster, Canadian Minister of Tradflc questioned as to the probaJ.de effect o£ reciprocity between Canada and Australia upon existing reciprocal condition* as between New Zealand and Canada, said it was difficult to say much. Thera was room for both countries. A slight advantage of position lay with New Zealand. He believed a trade with the Eastern parts of Canada could be worked up and would result satisfactorily at thia end. Questioned on the rumour of a possible amalgamation of the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Union .Steam Ship Company, he said lie heard nothing about it. A freight line was needed between the Pacific Slope and New Zealand and. Australia.
