RIFLE ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. At the last meeting of the Southland Rifle Association, Captain Gllkison presiding, a statement was submited by the treasurer showing a loss of £lO on the Boxing Day meeting, this being attributable to a reduction in the amount of the annual Government subsidy. A communicatloh was read from the Otago Association dealing with the Easter meeting to be held in Dunedin, and from the tenor of the remarks of various members it was apparent that a fair number of Southland marksmen intend going north to compete at the gathering. The committee resolved to recommend to Otago that Easter Monday be set aside as the date of the Otago-Southland match at Dunedin, over ranges of ,"00, GOO and GOO yards, teams to be of twenty men aside. Captain O’Toole was appointed manager of the Southlanders, and Messrs Lyall, Wills and Shanks were deputed to select the team. In the champion teams’ competition rules similar to those governing the Mercantile Shield firing were adopted, and the trophy can be won outright after three wins, teams to consist of eight men instead of five as heretofore. A sub-committee, consisting of Captains Gllkison and O'Toole, SurgeonCaptain Crawford, Lleuts. Lyall and Lennle, Sergt.-Major Robinson, and Rifleman Wills was appointed to go into the question of alterations in the running of the annual firing and to submit their proposals to the annual meeting of the Association in September.
