Mr G. Cruickshank, Stipendiary Magistrate lias returned to Invercargill aftei spending some weeks in the North Island, and will resume his duties tills morning. A St. Petersburg cable states that the Tsarevitch is confined to Ills bed. Mr G. \V. Palmer, Receiver of Land Revenue at Invercargill, lias received intimation of bis appointment to the position of Receiver at Christchurch, in succession to Mr A. McNab, who resigned some months ago. Mr Palmers successor has not yet been announced. .Mr Thompson, who has lor many years been manager of the Southland Kronen Meat Company's Wallacetown works, has tendered his resignation. His successor lias not yet been appointed. A IHmedin telegram states that the late Mrs Jessie Blair, of Lee Creek farm, near (Hitram, left £ 10.10 among local charities, of which £250 goes to the Presbyterian orphanage at Grant’s Brads, ti’iio for St. Margaret's College, £3OO for Knox College endowment fund, £2OO to the Salvation Army, and £2OO to the Karilnnc Hupilal.
The lion. K. Al. B. Fisher will go to Melbourne towards the end of Alnrch to attend a trade reciprocity conference. Besides (he Commonwealth and New Zealand. Canada will he represented, but U is not yet definitely known whether South Africa will send a delegate. The exact date of the conference lias not yet been fixed. A cable from Ottawa states that the Dnctiess of Connaught is steadily rc-covM-ing. A Wellington wire slates that Mr A. Hmisoii lias been elected President of ihe New Zealand Pharmacy Board for Hie current year.
