FROZEN MEAT

A NEW ZEALANDER’S IMPRESSIONS. ' NEW ASSOCIATION PROPOSED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association. —Copyright). SYDNEY. January 11. Mr W. D. Lygnar, of Gisborne, has arrived here. He visited England on behalf of the New Zealand Producers’ Association to report on the handling of New Zealand frozen produce. He stated that tlie London dock authorities acknowledged In 1910 that their system of distributing produce from the ship’s side at the Port of London was unsatisfactory, and promised reforms, which the New Zealand committee understood would be made within eighteen months. The reforms were still as far off as ever. The New Zealand committee of 1910 specially' requested that the SouthWest India docks should be especially equipped for the New Zealand trade. The Port of Hendon authorities were agreeable, but through London Importers’ pressure the authorities decided to make the suggested improvements to the Albert and Victoria dock instead oi ibe South-West In.lla and Albert ten miles lower down the T! aims, necessitating New Zealand produce Unveiling lie- extra distance, and being subjected to extra handling, The scheme, would not relieve New Zealand's main complaint, namely, the 'wretched barging system, which was stilling their trade by first ruining the products and then Increasing the cost to the consumer. Mr Lysnar said: "We Intend to walk right away from London and leave it quietly alone. It Is Impossible at this distance to force the London authorities out of the old rut. We propose to form a new association of producers at the London end, which will receive and market our produce, thus ensuring the profits going to the producer and eliminating the grasping middleman as far as possible.
