WALLACE COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING, The monthly meeting of Hie- Wallace County Council held at Otautau yesterday was attended hy Councillors John McNaughton (chairman), John Horrell, T. Flynn, AY. J. A. McGregor, F. J. Linscott. T. A, Buckingham, F. J. Dyer, A. Greer, and R. Tapper, junr. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from the Council's solicitors in reference to tho taking of land from Mr P. O'Brien, for railway purposes, and also making report of progress of sieps taken since last meeting. J. ('. Thomson, M.P.. wrote stating that lie had written to tho Minister of Public AYorks. asking for advice in regard to the various grants in Hie county. The member also acknowledged receipt of a resolution conveying Hie thanks of the Council for services rendered. Mr Thomson fun her informed the Council that lbe Minister of Public AYorks inleaded \ isi ling Southland during Hie month of February, hut of the exact date of his arrival, he. the writer, would notify them later. —-Received. Thos. Howard, AA’aihoaka, asked lor Hie Council's permission to cut cocksfoot.—Left in the hands of (ho member for the riding to (leal with. James O'Kane, AVairio, wrote informing the Council that tho drain from the Commercial Hotel to tho Morloy creek was in a had state, and if Hie Council would supply Hie pipes the writer would put them in at his own expense.—Councillors thought that tho request was a reasonable one and the Engineer was authorised to attend to the matter, A deputation from P.ayswater district intcr\iewod the member for the Otautau riding in reference to a subsidy for protective work', and were promised that an inspection of the locality would he made.
