THE OTIRA TUNNEL

CABINET'S DECISION. (Per United Press Association). WELLINGTON. December 20. Cabinet to-day decided, in accordance with the recommendations of the Parliamentary committee, on the inquiry into the position of Messrs McLean Bros, in relation to the Otira tunnel works, to cancel the contract. The McLeans will carry on the work till Christmas, and then the Public Works Department will take it over, and continue operations. Subsequently fresh tenders will be invited for the completion of the undertaking. Pending the acceptance of such a tender the Government will keep the work going.
