(From the Weekly Times, Saturday, March 3, 1866.)
From tlio Riverton Gold-fields our advices arc of a most encouraging nature. A party of three came to town on Saturday last, for a supply of provisions and disposed of about two ounces of gold. They declined to state what wore the prospects obtained, unless paid for th 1 information. ft is, however, tolerably certain (bey have struck payable ground. One or two parties have since started for (lie locality. There can be little doubt that ultimately an immense extent of auriferous country will be opened ttf, but this can only take place when a sufficient number of miners undertake to cope wi tit the difficult nature of the country—covered as it is witli dense hush. The members of the Fire Brigade made an inspection of (he various wells in town lately. it was found, with hut few exceptions, that, they are well supplied with water; but in the course of the examination it was discovered that the walls of one of them in Dee street bad given away, to such tin extent, as in reiptire immediate repairing. To avoir] possibly some accident occurring, we trust that steps will he at once taken to have the matter brought under the notice of the Government, and the necessary repairs executed without delay.
