A very pleasant function took place in Eichardt’s Hotel, Queenstown, on Alonday afternoon, when Constable Henderson was larewelicd by a number of Ids friends prior to his departure for Lumsden, where lie has been transferred. His Worship tiro Alayor (Mr J. Edgar), on behalf of his friends asked Air Henderson to accept a purse of sovereigns. In making the presentation the Alayor stated that Constable Henderson had been a zealous officer, diligent and firm in the performance of his duly. Several other gentlemen present spoke in complimentary terms of Mr Henderson, who suitably returned thanks. —Own Correspondent. A wedding of considerable local interest was celebrated in St. Paul’s, Arrowtonw, on Thursday last, says our Queenstown correspondent, when the Rev. H. Blathwayt, vicar of tho AVyndham Anglican Church, and formerly curate in the AVakatlpu parish, was married to Aliss Fanny Paterson, a daughter of the late Mr Wm. Paterson, of Ayrbum Station, Arrowtown. T*no marriage ceremony was performed by the Rev. H. Packe, and the bride was given away by her brother. Air R. N. Paterson. After Hie ceremony the happy couple left by motor car for AVanaka, where the honeymoon is being spent. Quito a gloom was cast over Lumsden yesterday morning, says our correspondent, when the news got abroad that Airs Cockroft, the wife of Mr Adin Cockroft, engine driver, had passed away. Mrs Cockroft was apparently in good health till a week or two ago, when it became known that she was suffering from some serious nervous illness. She, however, kept about and was in good spirits until a few days ago site took to her bed, and the end came very rapidly. The deceased lady leaves a widower, four sons, and three daughters, and the deepest sympathy is extended to her relatives. At AA’ellington on Tuesday evening a dinner was given by Air H. D. Bell, K.C., to tho Hon. Air Hanan, Minister of Justice, and acting Attorney-General, the Judges and the leading members of the bar in AVeliington. The Dunedin “Star’s” correspondent wires from AVeliington;—l understand that Inspector Wilson, ’ of AA’anganui, will succeed Inspector Cullen, at Auckland. Inspector Ellison, of AA’ellington, Is to be Acting Police Commissioner during inspector Cullen’s absences from headquarters. A welcome social was tendered at the Bluff last night by the parishioners of St. Alatthevvs Church of England to the Rev. Wm. Swinburn, recently appointed vicar of the parish. Air S. Nicltol (chairman of committee) presided, and In a short address, said that Air Swinburn did not come to them as a stranger having worked amongst them for tho past ten years, gaining their love, respect and confidence. They sincerely trusted that Air and Mrs Swinburn would And the parish and work congenial, and be long spared to work amongst them. Mr Swinburn suitably replied. A musical programme was rendered by the choir, items being contributed by Airs E. A. Nidi 01, Alisses Russell, Woods, Horribin, D. Lovett and C. Alctzger; Alessrs E. Parker, A. 11. Gourdes and O. F. Metzger, while Mrs Aloocly contributed a recitation.
