ISLAND MASSACRES
OUTRAGES AT “TEE MASKELYNES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.) SYDNEY. April 24. The mail from the New Hebrides reports the brutaJ murder of Mr Turier and. his wife on Maskelyrie Islands, near Maiekula. Mr Turier -was manager of Lanour Station. Both were shot by Lanonr natives as they were sitting down to dinner. Mrs Turier had a bullet in the back of her head, and was still bolding a soup tureen in the act of placing it on the table. Mr Turier was sitting with his back at tho table, and had a bullet wound in the chest and another in the arm, shattering the limb. ISie crime is supposed to have been one of vengeance for illegal recruiting by.some whites in the past.
