THE BRITISH MINERS' STRIKE
GETTING BACK TO NORMAD. MORE BATON CHARGES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, April 10. There have been animated scenes at Shields, where throe thousand seamen are joining two hundred steamers which were' rendered idle by the strike, A mass meeting of miners passed a resolution expressing grave concern at Mr Hartshorn's prediction of a renewed struggle in May or June. They appealed to Mr Hartshorn to extricate them from the present chaos before indulging in prophecies. A meeting of miners at Barnsley demanded that Messrs Hall and Wardworth, Labour M.P.'s, resign their leadership. Five thousand miners at Bolton and West Houghton refuse to resume work until a minimum wage has been fixed. Strikers attempted to prevent the miners from working at Golhorne. The police dispersed them after sharp baton charges. HALE A MH.EION AT WORK. REVOLT AGAINST FEDERATION. FURTHER SERIOUS RIOTING. LONDON, April 11. Received April 11, 11.20 p.m. Half-a-million minors are working. The chief hitch has occurred in South Wales, where the Miners’ Federation conferred with enginomen and urged them to resume. The enginemen refused and the Federation then issued a manifesto to members. While not directing colliers’ and enginemen's places, it does not place any difficulties in the way of colliery managers securing efficient men from the miners’ ranks. The revolt against the Federation is spreading in South Lancashire. Crowds, chiefly youths and unmarried men. are visiting the pits and compelling the workers to cease. There hare been several serious collisions the police resulting in baton charges. Twenty thousand men at Wigan, anxious to work, have been forced to stop fearing that hooligans would bdx miners within the pits. Owners at Heighten and Tyldeily reclosed their pits, believing *hem unsafe to work. The miners at present are in a destructive mood.
