Hear.-t lo send a special correspondent to Ottawa to conduct a campaign on behalf of reciprocity, and in aid of Liberals it) the fight. A storm has been aroused throughout the Dominion. amt Conservative journals ac-. case President Taft of being an archplotter and interfering with a foreign country's poll ties to holster up the failing fortunes of the Republican party. It is stated that Mr Hearst's representative is a close friend of Mr Taft’s and had arranged to participate* in Air Taft’s tour in September, hut urgent orders sent him to Ottawa. There is also an election scandal In Quebec East. Sir Wilfrid Lnurier’s opponent asserts that he was offered a large sum of money if he would retire. Ills opponents declare that Leduc (who has since retired) offered to retire If ho was given a position, especially that of secretary to the Canadian Commission in Paris. Arrests are said to be imminent. Mr Borden, the Conservative leader, has issued a manifesto stating that reciprocity moans the final absorption of the Canadian fiscal system in that of the United States. .
