FIRE PREVENTION IN SCHOOLS
(Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Sept. 20. To the Education Board to-day the Department forwarded a recommendation from the United Fire Brigades Association to the effect that fire drills should be hold periodically in tire principal public schools when the superintendent of eacli local brigade would instruct the children what to do in case of fire. On the motion of Mr Mitchell it was decided to inform the Department that provision had been made for lire drill in the schools under the supervision of the teachers, and that the Board would be pleased to have visits and suggestions from tiie fire brigade. On the motion of Mr McKlnly it was decided that head teachers in schools be instructed to invite the co-operation of the superintendents of fire brigades in the matter of their school fire drill, so as to make the practice as efficient as possible. The architect presented a report on the "Ajax” and' “Simplex” fire killers, lie believed that it would he desirable to have a fire killer such as tho “Ajax" installed in the schools ; hut lie could not advise the Board to install it. in view of tlie cost. It would cost about £ 120 to provide all the schools with these appliances.—Tho report was also adopted.
