THE DEFENCE SCHEME
WHAT TRAINING MEANS. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 19. General Godley, in an address on defence matters to-day, said that drill would be held in the evening, and parade would mean that a man would have to give up half a dozen holidays in the year. The only thing that would present any difficulty would be the week’s camp. That would bo arranged for a convenient time, and that was where employers could come in with help. The General said that there was extraordinary amount of misunderstanding over this matter; but combined training was a sine qua non. Unless comrades were trained together compulsory training would be a farce. LOCAL TERRITORIAL TRAINING. Officials of athletic bodies and other sporting institutions will note that the following days have been selected by the officers commanding corps as occasions upon which their commands will' parade for the necessary half-day parades under the new training scheme, “C.” Battery—October 18th; November 15th and 29th. Bth Regiment (Southland Rifles), October 18th; November Ist, 15th, and 29th; December 6th, and 20th.
