COUNTRY BALLS

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) Bachelors’ Ball at Mabel. —The bachelors of Mabel held their annual balifJast Wednesday evening in the hall, and as a social gathering the ball eclipsed all previous ones. The hall teas tastefully decorated for the occasion, with shrubs and ferns. The committee, with Mr Alex. Wilson as chairman and Mr Wm, McGil--11 v ray as secretary, carried out their duties in a very capable manner. Excellent music was discoursed by Messrs Aldridge brothers from Invercargill on the piano and violin. Mr Gavin Amos proved himself a most capable M.d. Some twenty couples came out from Invercargill, and visitors were present from all ttie surrounding districts, the haL be.ng fully taxed as to dancing room. luc grand march was led off by Ml A,.... Wilson and Miss Kerr, fully IU, couples taking part. Mr H. Brlug m«n pleased the company with a song during the evening. Dancing was indulge.. m with vim till 3.30, when the gatiitung broke up with cheers for the musicians and bachelors. The bachelors are to oe congratulated on the very able manner in which they treated their guests. The gathering as a social function was an easy record. Factory Ball at Grove Bush. —The second annual ball of the factory suppliers, was held in the Grove Bush School last Friday evening, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Good music was supplied by Mr N. Mclntyre (violin), and Mr A. Macklan (piano). Mr Gavin Amos carried out the duties of M.C. in his usual capable manner. Mr P. Vincent favoured the company with a song and stepdance. Some twenty-five couples tripped the light fantastic toe, and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Mr A. McKenzie the secretary had everything in his department carried out well.
