WANGANUI AND EDUCATION

(Per United Press Association.) WANGANUI, Sept. IS. At a meeting of the Wanganui Education Board to-night some interesting figures, culled from departmental statistics regarding Wanganui district, were given by the chairman, Mr Piranl. Last year £3738 was collected in donations, subscriptions, and Interest on bequests. No other district could compare with this, Auckland being nearest with £3OOO less. Wanganui subscribed nearly half the amount collected in New Zealand in fees from technical and district schools, from which £7853 had been gained. Auckland was again next with £IOOB. Competitive designs for the new infants’ school were received from Feilding, Palmerston, Wellington, and Christchurch, and from local men. The design of Mr T. H. Battle, a local architect, was accepted. The new school is to cost £3oo(k v The board is 'also calling for applications for the position of principal of the new technical college at a salary of £450.
