ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
[By Telegraph.—Pres* Association.—Copyright. ] SYDNEY, September 18. Two brothers named Nicol were drowned while surf bathing at Thirroul. (Per United Press Association.) WANGANUI, September IS. Hubert White, aged 17. was admitted to the hospital yesterday suffering from a gunshot wound in the chest. It seems that when out shooting at Aramoho yesterday he put a pea-rifle on the ground with the muzzle pointing towards his chest when by some inexplicable means the gun went off. The wound is in a serious position, but there Is no great danger at present though the bullet has not yet been extracted. LEVIN, September 18: At the inquest on Sarah Gyles, a verdict of accidental death was returned. She had been in a precarious state of health for some time and the shock of i, eing thrown from a trap caused her death. The motor car mentioned in connection with the case was proved to have been driven slowly when it passed the trap. The horse became frightened and the driver pulled it almost at right angles across the road which action precipitated both occupants from the vehicle. DUNEDIN, September 18. An explosion of benzine occurred on the steamer Breeze at Port Chaimers today by which four men were slightly burned about the faces and hands. The men were named Fred Holden, W. Harrison. Morgan Gotten, and Pat Healey, the injuries of the last-named being slightly worse than those of the others. It is stated that no benzine had been carried on board for a long time, but it is surmised that on some previous occasion some of the benzine had leaked into the bilges and remained there in the form of vapour. The flames which arose were quickly subdued and no damage was done to the vessel.
