Tlie Union Government has introduced a drastic Bill restricting race meetings and 'prohibiting betting at any sports with the exception of horse racing, and then only at a racecourse by means of the totalisator. The Bill abolishes the business of bookmaking, prohibits the ■publication of ante-post betting or antepost information relating to races run either inside or outside the Union. The Government takes 2 per cent, of the gross takings of the totalisator, plus 2 per cent, of the profits.
