At the close of the address the following resolution was carried, with one dissentient : “That the residents of North Otago, in public meeting assembled, express the opinion that the time has arrived when in the interests of wise legislation and sound admini-stratioa prompt steps should •be taken by the people of the Dominion to remove the present Government from office.” DUNEDIN, July 15. Mr T. K. Sidey, at Dunedin South, addressed a meeting nf his constituents last night. He reviewed the legislation of last year at length, contending that the session was a most important and memorable one. The following motion was carried ; “That the best thanks of tliis meeting be accorded Mr Sidey, and that the meeting express its entire satisfaction with the present Administration.” WELLINGTON. MORRIS IN THE FIELD. •' In regard to the Awarua seat thef* have been several rumours afloat as to possible and probable opponents to Sip Joseph Ward, the man in the street being. no doubt, wholly accountable fop many of the names that have been made use of. However, an Saturday night Mr W- A. Morris. of Waikiwi, at the social tendered hy Trades’ Unionists to Mr P, Haywood, at Bluff, announced that ho had definitely decided to take the field as a Labour candidate. Mr Morris is an: old campaigner, and a good many years ago he contested the Ballarat seat in the Labour interests against Mr Alfred Deakin. afterwards Premier of the Commonwealth. Mr Morris pn that occasion got within 500 votes of his redoubtable opponent. Since his arrival in Invercargill, MP Morris has beep actively identified Witli the Labour movement, and he was one of the prime movers in the formation of the Southland Sawmill Workers’ Union. Last election he contested the Awarua seat, and on a previous occasion he wooed the suffrages of the electors of InvercargilL Mr Morris stated on Saturday night that he intended to contest the coming election as strenuously and as thoroughly; as it was possible for him to do, and he hazarded the opinion that his chances of winning the seat were decidedly good. At the last election, considering that ho addressed only a few meetings, he said that he* was quite satisfied with the support thaf kad been given him.
