At the Empire League dinner, Sir Joseph Carruthers referred to the Cardinal’s attitude ( regarding Empire Day, and said that England, Ireland, Scotland, and Australia each had special days which they celebrated. It was good to have a day in all parts of the Empire on which they could celebrate together. The Cardinal should remember that priests were persecuted in foreign countries and always found security under the British flag.
