U.S.-CANADA AGREEMENT

SIR W, LYRE’S OPINIONS ANNEXATION THE IDEA. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright). SYDNEY, March 20. Received March 21, 12.5 a.m. Sir W. Dyne, after discussing Cana-dian-American reciprocity arrangements with business men in Canada, returns with the conviction that if the agreement is ratified by the Dominion House Canada will be annexed by the United States in eight or ten years, and the British Empire will begin to disintegrate. He attributes the reciprocity negotiations to the failure of the British Government in 1907 to make a preferential treaty with the self-governing dominions. The Americans that he met at San Francisco did not cloak the fact that the idea in their minds was the absorption of Canada. Reciprocal trade would allow American trusts and combines to spread through Canada. Sir William was glad to see the growing feeling in Canada against the treaty. He thinks that the people have more sense than to ratify the treaty.
