A BOXER KILLED.
“SQUARED" HBHT ALLEGED. JACK WHITTAKER ARRESTED. (By T*le*rapb—Prccv Amoqlstloo—Copyrlxhtx SYDNEY, March 16. Received March 16, 4.55 p.m. A fatal fight took place at Waterloo Coliseum last night. Jack Whittaker floored Vic. Gleeson, who struck his head on the floor and became unconscious. Gleeson died to-day. Both men classed as heavy-weights. Received March 16, 10.10 p.m. The dead boxer’s true name was Victor Jacobson. Whittaker’s seconds state that It was definitely arranged before the fight that Whittaker should lose. He had wagered to that effect, and the manner of the fight Indicated that It was true, deceased falling for the slightest blows in order to waste time. Neither gave a decent hit. In the thirteenth round the deceased fell, fractured his skull on the floor, and did not regain consciousness. Whittaker had undertaken to stop his opponent in fifteen rounds or lose. Whittaker and the ring officials have been arrested. [The conditions of the match were that If Gleeson was on his feet at the termination of 15 rounds he was to collect the £2O side bet, and the big end of the gate receipts.-—Spt. Ed.]
