THE HENRY-FARQUHAR MISSION
I2QTEEEST IN CEE A SING-. The welcome rain which South land «as been waiting for for several months militated against the attendance at the mission last night, and although its numerical strength was decreased, this was compensated for by the spiritual tenour of the meeting. That Dr Henry is making his presence felt in the community is clear, and although up to last night no public confession of conversion had been made, at ttie earnest ippeal of the missioner quite a number it young people sought that instruction as to their eternal welfare which ’he doctor and his associates- are eager o give. • A large number of requests for prayer rere read out by the missioner, and his is taken to be a fair indication of -he spiritual movement which is at vork In the community. Hr Farquhar and his happy band of choristers lent material assistance to .he service. The singing at the mission s itself well worth hearing. Dr Henry, ;n a powerful address on "Drifting away from God.” based his remarks on the story of Lot, who pitched his tent towards Sodom, the speaker pointing out the spiritual and moral degradation of such an action. It spelt spiritual bankruptcy. The lecturer drew pictures from personal experiences of the folly of those who made such a choice, and urged them with all the power he possessed to turn to the Saviour of mankind. He enlarged in dramatic and forceful language on the; man who strangled spiritual aspirations, the man who had lost his will-power—-the power to say "no”—and gave telling illustrations on this point. He concluded by pleading with his hearers to settle the great question before they passed the point of redemption; to take Jesus Christ as their Saviour and enter the new life. The usual mid-day meeting for business men. the afternoon Bible study, and the evening evangelical meeting Will be held to-day.
