WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY.

ERECTION OF N.Z. STATIONS. AX IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT. (Special to tho Times.) STRATFORD, Jan. 26. An importont development in connection with the inauguration of a public wireless telegraphy service in New Zealand was announced by Sir Joseph Ward in his speech here to-night. The Prime Minister said that he was pleased to bo In a position to state that, after lengthy and troublesome negotiations, a satisfactory offer had been received for the erection of two high-power and five low-power wireless stations. One hlghpower station will be erected at Doubtless Ray and the other at the Bluff. Kach will be capable of keeping up communication with the continent of Australia. The lower-power stations will bo erected one each at Gisborne, New Plymouth, Christchurch and Wellington, and alco one on board the Government steamer Tutanekei.

“Experiments which have been conducted by officers of the Telegraph Department at Wellington,” said Sir Joseph, "have satisfied me that the smaller stations can conveniently be erected on the roofs above tho Post Office at the places named, a course which will materially reduce the cost of upkeep, as the stations will be under the immediate charge of the postmasters. The highpower stations, however, will be independent units staffed by special staffs and remaining open day and night. When the proposed stations are erected every corner of the coast and the ocean surrobnding New Zealand within a considerable radius will be within the field of our wireless telegraph system. I am glad to bo able to say that the cost of working will bo reasonable and well within expectations. The details have been referred to the Law Officers of the Crown to have the necessary agreement prepared, and upon this being signed I will then be in a position to give further information to the public.”
