ABOUT PEOPLE.

A wedding of considerable interest took place on Tuesday at Rannocn House, the residence of Mrs James Gardner. The bridegroom was Mr W. J. Grigor, son of the late Dr Giigor, of this town, and the bride Miss M. Gardner, daughter of the late James Gardner, Esi|„ of Birch wood. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. G. Lindsay. The bride was given away by her eldest brother, Mr Carnegie Gardner, and was attended by Miss N. Earl as bridesmaid, while Mr F. Matheson acted as best man. The happy codple were the recipients of many handsome presents from a large circle of friends. At a meeting of Dunedin City Council last night Mr Lewiir, of Lyttelton/ was appointed Town Clerk in succession to Mr R. W. Richards. There were 38 applicants for the position, which carries a salary of £GOO per annum.—Press association. The Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet entertained their colleague, the Hon. G. Fowlds, at dinner last night at Bellamys, to welcome him on his return from South Africa. About fifty representative men were' present, including all ministers now in Wellington and members of botli branches of the Legislature, Mr Justice Edwards, Dr McArthur, S.M., Captain Wcmyss, of H.M.S. Cambrian, and others. —Press Association. A Wellington telegram states that the Commandant of the forces (MajorGeneral Godley. C.8.), accompanied by his staff officer, Lieut.-colonel Burnett Smith. D.5.0., left for the south last night on a visit ox inspection. After a year’s absence from the Dominion, Mr Justice Denniston and Mrs Denniston, who have been Home on a health recruiting tour, returned to Wellington yesterday by the Moeraki. Miss Denniston returned to New Zealand about a fortnight ago. His Honour, will leave for Christchurch in a couple of days and opens the Timaru session next Wednesday, expressed himself as feeling in excellent health. Mrs Denniston, too, is very well. —Press Association.
