SCHOOL PICNIC AT HOKONUI
A SUCCESSrUi OUXITO. The annual picnic of the iiokonui school was held on Friday in a paddock adjoining the school. The day was line, the attendance large, and the outing successful in every way. .Mr Chris McRae (Chairman of the School Committee) acted as superintendent, and with the assistance of other members of the committee, got off a comprehensive programme of events witii great satisfaction to all present. Care was taken to provide all the children with prizes, and for lids purpose the committee had obtained an unusually large and suitable collection of books. The pleasure of the picnickers was very materially enhanced by the convenience of the new hail. Thanks to this accommodation, the ladies of the district were able to cater for the picnic gathering under most favourable conditions. McLean, j The tug-o’-war between teams composed respectively of married and single men was an event looked forward to keenly, but the rope provided failed to ■ stand the strain put upon it by the bone and sinew and averdupois of Hokonui. Twice it broke, and the contest was unwillingly abandoned on the understanding that the result would be accepted by all as a draw.
