PRESENTATION
TO CHAPLAIN CAPTAIN LINDSAY. At the infantry camp in Queen’s Park yesterday evening an unusual break was made in the routine. The Rev. G. Lindsay, who for eight years has been the respected Chaplain Captain of the Oretl Rifles, attended tea at the invitation (by permission of the O.C. the camp) of his company. In view of Mr Lindsay’s projected early departure for Dunedin, the members of the company were desirous of meeting their Chaplain and showing him their appreciation of the many kindly attentions shown them by him. After tea Mr Lindsay was met by the officer commanding t!ie Oreti Rifles (Capt. Lennie), and the company, as well as Major Murphy and representatives of the other companies. Captain Lennie stated the sincere regret the company experienced at the Chaplain’s removal. His absence would be deeply felt by members, who bad become deeply attached to him. Mr Lindsay had attended all the camps and the various functions of the company, and had taken an almost paternal interest in the members. The speaker handed to him, as a small mark of the company's esteem, a silver rose bowl, bearing the inscription: "Presented to Chaplain Captain Lindsay in appreciation of his services to the corps—Oreti Rifles, B Company, 2nd Battalion O.R. 23/1/11. ’The above remarks were endorsed by Major Murphy,, Lt. Cooke (on behalf of the Awarau Rifles), and Sergt. Logan (on behalf of the Guards). The last-named expressed the opinion that Mr Lindsay in his wide sympathy was as much Chaplain of the battalion as of his own particular company. Mr Lindsay made a feeling response, in which he voiced deep regret at having to leave the corps. He would always take a deep interest in the Orel! Rifles, he said, and in ail the Invercargill companies. He had hopes that he would not break bis connection with the service, as he might be able to transfer into some company in Dunedin.
