A KAISER SPEECH

Received Nov. 17, 10.55 p.m. The Kaiser, in a speech at the Benedictine Monastery at Beuren, declared that the twentieth century had brought ideas which could be effectively combatted only by keeping religion. He added: "The Crown I wear can give an assurance of success only if based on the word and personality of Christ as a symbol thereof." In presenting a crucifix to the monastery he said: "You must help to strengthen the religious sense inborn in Germans and to increase reverence towards the altar and the throne."
