PRESENTATIONS TO THE REV. J. W. SHAW.
At the annual meeting- of KnffX Church, Dunedin, on Wednesday night, the latter half of the evening was taken up with the making of a series of presentations to the Rev. J. W. Shaw, who is now in charge of Knox Church, Invercargill. Mr Davies spoke first on behalf of the congregation. He referred to the highly appreciative minute passed by the session on Mr Shaw's work, and mentioned particularly his remarkable .success at the head of the Young Men's Bible Class, and in the mission services in the Stuart Hall. H<? had great pleasure in handing Air Shaw a purse containing 50 sovereigns from the congTetion. The Deacons' Court had alreadypresented him with a dining room table and a desk. The Rev. E. A. Axelsen. on behalf of the congregation that meets in Stuart Hall on Sunday evenings, presented Mr Shaw with a beautiful rug and a large framed picture. On behalf of'the Sunday School teachers and Bible Class leaders, Mr D. Todd presented Mr Shaw with a number of volumes. The last presentation was made by Mr S. Strang on behalf of the Young Men's Bible Class. This consisted of a large framed set of pbolographs of the members of the class, with Mr Shaw in the centre of the group. Each of the speakers made most complimentary reference to the ability, and success with which Mr Shaw had carried on the numerous departments of his work. Mr Shaw was enthusiastically received on rising to reply. He said that his comparatively short connection with. Knox Church had been crowded with many experiences, and had been rich in the formation of friendships. He could never sufficiently value the privilege of his connection with Mr Hewitson, with Mr David Todd, and with many of the workers and institutions of the church. He felt very much humbled indeed by the very complimentary and appreciative references that had been made by the speakers to his work. This was just the coping-stone ofthe many kindnesses lie had received from the congregation, and lie could not tell them how much he felt it. Thry had overwhelmed both himself and Mrs Shaw with kindness while thev \vei> here, and now they were following them with still greater kindness.
Professor Hewitson wished Mr and Mrs Shaw long, united, happy, and useful life in Knox Church, Invercargill. He had often been amazed, he said, at Air Shaw's wonderful versatility, and went on to refer to him as one of the most effective men the church would have in future days.
