The skating at Hie Clyde street rink yesterday was characterised by well-at-tended sessions, more particularly in the afternoon and evening. The approach of the carnival is to lie noted in the usual practice indulged in fancy and partner skating, while the management intimate that the. sale of carnival tickets is unexpectedly large. Tit ere appears to bo no doubt that there will be not only a very considerable attendance of spectators on carnival night--, but also a great number of costume skaters and competitors. To-day Hie rink will be open for the usual morning, afternoon and evening sessions, as well as for the learners’ hour between 1 p.m. and J p.m. MacMAHON’S PICTURES. .Memory of the desperate exploits of Hie Kelly Gang is still vivid enough to make a reminder unnecessary, and it is probable that the pictures which Messrs Mae.Mahon have to show will "draw” here its they have done elsewhere; Speaking of tile film, which is 3,000 ft in length, the Auckland Herald says;— U was a wonderful creation, especially taken for Hie .Mae.Mahon Bros, by Messrs Johnson and Gibson, of .Melbourne, and presented tiie story of one of the most sensational pages of Australian history in a truly realistic form. Commencing with Hie' shooting of Constable Fitzpatrick. when lie went to arrest one of Hie Kellys for horse-stealing, it showed the Kellys Hiking to .the back country, and their first encampment with Steve Hart and Joe Byrne, the adventures of Ned Kelly at Gregan’s hut, and the shooting of Hie woman who tried to save him. The further adventures of the gang were followed to their last stand at Glenrowan, in which the more sensational events in that memorable conilict were most graphically portrayed. The box plan for the season of two nights in Invercargill opens at the Dresden this morning. A FOOTBALL DINNER. Tlie members of the South Canterbury football team were entertained at dinner last evening by the Southland Rugby Union in the Railway Hotel. Tlie President (Mr R. Galbraith) occupied the chair, and proposed the health of the South Canterbury team. He congratulated tlie visitors on their win, although to Sonthlanders it was unexpected. The Southland men. however, would take their defeat in good spirit. Mr Galbraith wished the team success in their match with Otago on Saturday, and congratulated Mr Roddick on his retention of form. He would like to see an annual fixture made between Southland and South Canterbury. Mr Roddick (captain) and -Mr Fraser (manager) suitably responded.
