HEALTH OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN.
The Society for the Health of Women and Children hold its monthly meeting in Allen's Hall yesterday afternoon, when there was a large attendance, considering: tHc unfavourable weather conditions. The secretary (Mrs Handyside) read the rinnket nurse’s report. That the work was spreading was shown by the great increase in the number of cases. Nurse O’Shea, who arrived later in Use meeting, said that all the cases in her charge were ‘progressing sntisfnclorlly, and mentioned two instances in which delicate babies were gaining in weight and were well on the road to vigorous health. That the mothers appreciate Hie services of the nurse was testified to by the many grateful letters and substantial donations which the Society from time to time received. The donations were entirely voluntary, for the Society wished it to be everywhere known that the nurse's services were quite free to everyone and were rendered as gladly to those who were unable to pay as to people who could do so. The treasurer (.Mrs CJul 1111J submitted a statement of the financial position of the Society up to the present. It showed (hat the Society was making steady progress, the proceeds of the Childrens’ Party and some substantial donations having been a great help. The thanks of ttie Society were due to those ladies who formed a Parly Committee and also to all persons who helped to make it a success. The benefits to the Society and (be pleasure lo the children hail hern so great that it was contemplated milking the party an annual event. The president (Mrs Massey) read to Hie meeting some extracts from the rc|I(JI( nf (he Dunedin Society’s annual meeting, Tim report slated dial the meeting was attended by a large number of people. Including His K.xcel lemy l.ord Plunket, Hon. .1. A. Millar (Minisler of Hallways i. and several of the medical men of Dunedin. Members of bolb the Upper and Dower Houses of Parliament were also present. The Society had spread from " North to south of New Zealand in a very short time and was doing such good work that it deserved the support of every man and woman in the Dominion." The business of the meeting was concluded by the election of Mrs Ott to the committee in the place of a member who had resigned.
