BOWMONT ST. SEWING CLASS

ANNUAL SALE OF WORK. The annual sale of work held by the members of tiie Bowrnont Street Sewing Class was held in the Church of Christ. Bowrnont street, yesterday afternoon and evening. Air G. S. Longuet performed tiie opening ceremony in the afternoon. The philanthropic ■work carried out by this hand of’ young women, under tiie capable guidance of Mrs J. Watt (president) and -Miss E. T. Todd (secretary), is well known and generally admired in Invercargill. Meetings are held fortnightly throughout the year, and the articles manufactured by their busy fingers, together with the gifts of numerous friends, are offered ■for sale annually. Tiie proceeds are devoted to charity, assistance being given to the needy regardless of denominational belief. This, takes Hie form of gifts of clothing, and of groceries, and in a few rare cases financial aid is also rendered. As Hie result of yesterday’s sale the sum of £lO was raised. The stall-holders were : Mrs Pryde, and Misses Todd. Scot!, AleSwan. Howie, Langmuir, Ingram, and Murdoch (2.) In the evening an enjoyable soeiai lea meeting was held, and (hereafter notables were cleared away and the building put in readiness for the annual concert. Mr James Ward, President of the. Hospital .Saturday Association, presided and delivered an address appreciative of tiie valuable practical work that was being so effectively undertaken by the Bowrnont street ladies. Addresses were also given by Mr Joliii Neill, and by Air C. B. Longuet. Items fo the •concert programme were contributed by the Earsman "Family (part songs), Airs Dryden (song). Air F. R. Rail (recitatio*n). Misses Clieyne and Hodsop (pianoforte duet), Air Earsman (song), Mr Campbell (monologue). .Misses AteKie (duet), Airs Hensley (song). Air Inglls Todd (violin solo), Air G. G. Cool, (song). Aliss Emma Earsman (song), Mr A. B. Wallace (recitation), and Airs W. Earsman (song.)
