Y.M.C.A. BUILDING
THREE £SO CONTRIBUTIONS. j A TENDER ACI ’OPTED. ! .V meeting of 0 “ V.M.C.A. Board of Directors, held last evening, "as attended liv Messrs S. Longuot (President). AV. 1). Hunt, J. S. Baxter, C. 11. , Roberts, J. I'. Strang. \V. A. AlcCaw, J. : Watt. U. At. Strang, V. C. Cook, amt J. 18. .McKinney (General Secretary), j Apologies were received from Messrs AV. ! I'. Scandrett, A. S. Wallace, and F. R. Ball. I The important business of the mooting was the discussion of the position of the building scheme, and the receipt of reports from members who had in--1 terviewed citizens regarding the sup- | plementary building fund. It bad already been intimated that an additional £IOO had been promised, and the Board I was rather unprepared for the rather ; startling report from one member that ' over and above tills ho had since received promises of three amounts of £SO each and one of £-5, bringing the total up to £:jf!r., Tills result was considered encouraging beyond expectation, in view of the facts that already many ■citizens have made definite promises of support when the building operations take concrete shape and that, moreover, the country districts have yet to bo actively canvassed. In the latter direction a strong support Is anticipated as it is expected that the Association will extend considerable benefits to young men from the country. The question of tenders consequently came up at the meeting under the host of auspices, and the Board, considering that finances fully .instilled the action, accepted the lowest. There are ns yet circumstances which render it necessary to withhold publication of the particulars of the tender for a few days, but it Is hoped tbiit in a very short lime a report that everything has been settled will lie made, A sub-eommittee was appointed to act with the architect in giving effect to the decision of the Board. The Secretary reported that no reply bad been received from .Mr J. J. Viygo, lion. National Secretary (Sydney) regarding his proposed visit to Invercargill, but the Board is hopeful that Mr Virgo will accept the Invitation as itwas felt that the opinions and advice of a man of Air Virgo's experience and recognised ability would bo particularly valuable to Die Association at the pre--1 sent stage. Included in the correspondence dealt with at the meeting were letters from the AVellington Association and from Air .1, .1. Virgo (.National Secretary) advising Hint the National Convention for Australia and New Zealand would be bold In AVellington from 30th November to C.tli October next, and asking that delegates be sent from the local Board and membership. The Finance Committee submitted a statement of the funds in the general and building accounts and furnished an estimate of receipts and expenditure for (lie current year. These were adopted. Accounts amounting to £33 were passed for payment.
