The Bank, of England returns show: Stock of gold, coin and bullion, £32,517,000; reserve, £22,591,000; proportion of reserve to liabilities, 47,45; in circulation, £28,777,000; public deposits, £7,258,000; other deposits, £42,423,000; Government securities, £13,976,000; other securities, £30,429,000. The bank rate is 4 per cent. Short loans are discounted at 3% per cent.; three months’ bills as follow: London, 3 1-16, Paris 2%, Berlin 3%. Consols are quoted at 82. —Colonial Stocks.— 1

—Butter and Cheese.—
Butter is easier, the holidays checking business. Danish choicest is weak at 127 a to 1295; secondary, 116s to 118s. The quality of many brands is somewhat unsatisfactory. Xew Zealand choicest 122s to 1245; secondary, 116s to 120s; Argentine, 1225; Siberian, 120s to 1225. Cheese is firm New Zealand, colored-60s to 61s; white, 62s to 635.

The Wheat markets are showing a holiday tone, but are firm owing to the reported droughts in the American winter wheal be.lt. There have been reductions in the official estimates of the Argentine crop and a decrease in the world’s weekly shipments. Some 10,500 quarters of Victorian March shipment sold at .‘l9s IVad, and a cargo of Australian at 38s 7 tid. There is little inquiry for cargoes ; 38s 6d is asked for sailers, January shipment ; 30s and 39s 3d for February steamers. Australian spot is held for 12s 6d, hut there is nothing doing. Xew Zealand, new crop, prompt shipment, is valued at from 35s to 35s 6d c.i.f. Flo ur.— Flour is dull. Sales of Australian April shipment have boon made at 26s
