Several Unionist papers are denouncing Mr Lloyd George’s violent language upon the subject of interference by landlords in elections, and lay stress on the fact that no such- complaints were made during the election of 1906. Mr Lloyd George describes the Gladstone League as a city of refuge for persecuted voters, who will employ an avenger of blood and prosecute intimidators.

During the hearing of a side issue in- the Court of Appeal it was shown that Mr Henniker Heaton’s action against Goldney and the publishers of the Kentish Gazette arose from Goldney’s letter accusing Mr Heaton of former attempts to obtain a large sum of money from him as the price of his retirement from the representation of Canterbury.
