( The term of appointment of the following members, of the Legislative Council expired ' yesterday;— Hon. A. Baldcy Hon. W. C. F. Carncross (TaraBaki), Hon. T. Thompson (Auckland), and Hon’.. F.-Trask (Nelson). His Excellency the Governor has approved of their reappointment for a further term Of seven . years.—Press Association. Mr James Bishop has (says a Wellington telegram) been appointed manager of Point Elizabeth No. 2 State coal mine at Coal Creek, as from March Ist. Messrs T. Driscoll, James G. Johnston, W.- J. Newton, and T. W. Stroud have been appointed by the Lands Department; to be trustees of the Wreysf Bush Public Cemetery. Mr H."A. Martin, formerly part proprietor of. the Gore Standard, has acquired a -newspaper property In the North Island, and will be leaving Gore on Friday of next week for his new sphere of labour. Mr Martin has resided in Gore for the past twenty years, and In addition to being a member of the Gore Borough Council, he is a steward of’the Gore Trotting Club, and has identified himself with the management of most of the local athletic organisations. Mr, Martin’s numerous friends In Gore, although regretting his departure from 'the district, all join in wishing him success and prosperity in his new venture. At the annual meeting last night of the Eastern District Rugby Football Sub-Union a vote was recorded expressing appreciation of services rendered by Mr Martin, both as a member of the Union's committee and of his efforts for the good of football In the district. Mr L. J. Bagnall, who has been a member of Auckland Council for the past seven years, and a member of various local ;bodies for the past forty years, was yesterday presented with a requisition signed by many representative men asking him to consent to nomination for Auckland mayoralty. Mr Bagnall acceded to the request. Press Association. A Berlin telegram to the London "Express” states that the Kaiser’s exiled cousin, Frederick, son of. the late Duke 0f Albrecht, who wqis Regent of Brunswick, has become a monk, and given up his fortune of £200,000 to the, Roman Catholic Church in Italy.
