A London cable reports-that (he Archbishop of Cork has appointed the I lev. A. IX Tapper a Canon. The. reverend gentleman intends to devote hiinsell. to mission work, and will sail on dune Iti for New Zealand, where he will carry on a three months' mission with the help ol Mr Charles McLaren. Mr A. W. Hogg denies the rumour that lie intends to contest a seat in the Auckland district in the interests of the Labour Party.
Lord Kitchener arrived at Wellington from his overland trip yesterday, and left in the afternoon by the Alokoia for the Eastern Pacific Islands, Air W. G. Evans, Dominion advocate for the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, will be asked by a deputation shortly to contest the Hutt -seat at the next General Election. It is understood in Wellington that Air Evans will accede to the request.
