LAKE HAUROTO.
The account of the opening run of Mr Rooney’s launch on Lake Hauroto published in our issue of yesterday would he read with great interest by those who are aware of the beauties of that resort and of its growing popularity. Lake Hauroto is not now by any means inaccessible, and it is regarded by many who have visited it as the gem of the Southern Lakes. The provision of a well-equipped motor launch will greatly facilitate' the movements of holiday makers. It will enable them to explore the beauties of the lake in a very short time, and it will relieve them to a very great extent of their anxieties about wind and weather. Lake Hauroto undoubtedly has a great future before it as a holiday resort, and Mr Rooney deserves to be complimented upon the energy and perseverance he has shown in opening it up for public pleasure. What has been done to make Hauroto more accessible has been done mainly by the settlers themselves, and they have a strong claim upon the Government for assistance towards the improvement of the* track and in providing some accommodation at the lake. As Hauroto becomes better known the number of visitors to it is certain to increase, and Mr Rooney’s enterprise in putting the launch on the lake should bring; him the reward that he deserves.
