ATTEMPT TO WRECK HOTEL.
A WANGANUI INCIDENT. (Per United Press Association.) WANGANUI, March 2. An attempt was made to destroy the Upokongaro hotel last night, some gelignite being exploded on the roadway In front of the place. Every window was smashed: but otherwise no damage was done. The explosion was heard a mile away.
The police suspect that the outrage was committed by a Mexican named Laurent, who is supposed to have committed suicide in the river, his coat and vest being found near the ferry boat on the riverbank opposite the hotel. The police are now dragging for the body.
