FIRES.
ANUTiiii'K lILTUL BURNT. Per United Trees Association. WELLINGTON. A!arch 3. A fire early this morning burned the Paekakariki hotel to tho ground. The lessee is .Mr Hilton. Tho hotel was built over MO years ago, and was a slopping place lor tin: coaches which used to run between Wellington and Wanganui before the railway was built. It contained about 25 rooms and was owned by Mr G. Anyon, now residing in ‘Fiji. Tho ill boarders escaped in their night clothing, absolutely nothing' being saved. Tho licensee got away with nothing hut his coat and trousers. So fierce were the dames that a quarter of an hour after the alarm tho building was in ruins, .Mr Hilton lost £SO worth of jewellery and several of the hoarders lost valuables to a smaller amount. The building was insured in the Liverpool, London, and Globe office for £2IOO the furniture for £2OO, and the slock for £2OO in the same office.
