(From Our Own Cor respondeat.) The annual meeting of the Fortroae branch of the Farmers’ Union was held on Tuesday afternoon ; Mr. H l . Middleton '(president) in the chair. The treasurer (Hr. R. A. IDlliott) reported a credit {balance of £-4 10s fid. In d-ofrig so, he said the position was not so good as it seemed. as jtvnly some 13 members had paid last year’s subscription. The election of officebearers for the ensuing year resulted In the following gentlemen being- elected :—President, Mr S. I. Middleton ; secretary and treasurer. Air R. A. Elliott ; committee, Messrs J. Anderson, McFadzien, Mclntosh. K. G. McKenzie, T. McKenzie, T. Golden, W. Middleton, W. Turner, W. Dawson, J. -Smith, and A. Christie. Mri McFadztcp, was appointed delegate to the conference.

Mr. H. J. Middleton moved, and Mr. i'.LWsO'a - seconded, the following remit, and it was unanimously decided that It be sent on for discussion at tiK conference : “ That in view of the danger of the three-party system drifting into New Zealand politics, the Premier and the header of the Opposition be Urged to form a coalition ” In speaking to the motion shortly, the mover thought that such action would be for the good of the state; In Australia the three-party system was in vogue, and every effort should be made to keep N.Z. from getting into such a position. It has been decided to ask the Hon. R. Mc.Nab to attend a bwnqnet here before the session opens, or whenever convenveOk to himself.
