The attention of athletes and those Interested in Highland Games Is directed to the preliminary announcement of the Society In connection with the anual gathering and games arranged . for the forthcoming New Year’s sports. I The prize list is a particularly large it one this year, and tills can be gauged B' by the fact that It “exceeds that of i any three combined societies whose r sports ere held in Southland during the f holidays." In all ,43 events have been «;• placed on the programme, and all classes of sports are represented. The J number for each section and the total Brize money is as follows ; —Bagpipe Basic, four events, £3l 10s ; dancing, Rbven events, £36 ; cycling, three events, £25 ; running (cash), seven events, £7O ; running (amateur), three events, £lO 10s : jumping, four events, £IS ; wresfing, three events, £lO 10s : chopping and sawing, two events. £l2; quoits, £S Ss ; hammer, stone and caber, four events, £lB. j The secretary reports that already | entries are coming to hand, and among ( these is one from Mr Lionel Broad, j who will compete In the Sheffield Han- ( dicap. This event will be conducted on j new lines this year. Instead of one i distance, viz.. 135 yards, there will be ] , three distances—loo, 150 and 220 yards, j Seven pounds is allotted for each I event, and the competitor securing most j points will receive £lO and the presi- 1 dent's Olr W. Timpany) gold medal. Those Interested may obtain programes and entry forms from the secretary on application. Entries will close . on the 27th Inst.
