Tho following are llie condition under which the committee of tin Manawatu Racing Club is prcpam lo issue licenses to bookmakers t< ply their, trade on the Manawati racecourse during the forlhcominf Christmas meet ing : The application: for the issue of a bookmaker's liconsi must ho in writing and in the handf of the secretary not later than noor of Thursday, Roc. 10. The application may ho for one, two, or thm days, and must ho accompanied by f cash deposit of £t2o. Every application shall bo accompanied by documentary evidence as to the general and financial fitness of the applicant to hold such a license. Tho committee reserves tho right to ask for additional evidence or to refuse tho application if the evidence 'tenderer appears to he insufficient. Tho amount payable for a license shall be £.'.'2o oer 'diem, payable upon the issue of the license. A person applying for a license /or more than one day can secure tho same upon payment of £<3o ; but the license, shall bo totally inoperative for a second or third day until it is endorsed with a receipt by the. secretary for further paymeals of -C2O each in respect of each l such da vs. Each bookmaker shall ho entitled to have a clerk in attendance at the racecourse upon payment of a fee of ,G5 per diem. No person who has ever acted as a bookmaker shall he eligible to act as clerk ‘and no clerk shall act as a bookmaker or ns the agent of a bookmaker in laying wagers, calling the odds, or transacting the business of a bookmaker other than purely clerical work. No holder of a bookmaker’s license shall carry on his calling as a bookmaker, except upon that portion o/ the racecourse specially set aside for that purpose and in respect! of which he is specially licensed, pro- j vided that such portion of the race-, course shall give reasonable facilities for communication with both tho , public in the saddling paddock and the public in the outside enclosures. | N T o bookmaker shall be allowed upon ho lawn or grand stand enclosures, ,

mid no bookmaker shall call the odds or transact any hotting business outside the enclosures set apart for that purpose,. No bookmaker shall make any bet on any race after the closing of the tote for that race. No bookmaker shall lay any wager in contravention of section 4- of the Gaming' Act 1894, and in particular no bookmaker shall lay totalisator odds. Any bookmakers or the clerk of any bookmaker who shall be proved to the satisfaction of the stewards to have committed any breach of these conditions or of the Gaming j and Lotteries Act or to have been guilty of a corrupt practice within the meaning of the rules of racing, or to have committed any breach of tine rules of racing shall i>e liable to have his bookmaker’s license cancelled, and in the event thereof he shall ; not be entitled to a refund of any portion of his license fee, and in ‘ addition thereto shall be liable to bp expelled from the racecpurse. Every bookmaker and the clerk of every bookmaker shall wear a distinctive, badge. Every bookmaker shall, when ever called upon so to do by any official of the club 'duly authorised by the committee, produce his bookmaker’s license for inspection;
