j TIMARU MEETING. (Special to the Times.) TIMARU, April 10. At the South Canterbury mooting, held at Timaru to-day, several Southland horses were engaged. Post Card, in the first race, was one of the last to mow, and finished close up, fourth. In the President’s Welter he came very fast from the homo turn, and won an interesting race by a length from Manjcss, paying the best dividend of the day. In the Hack Race Sarsfield won with something to spare by three lengths from a strong favourite in Flavour. In the Cup. Samateria made the most of the running, till a couple of furlongs from home, when he began to lire and could not get .nearer, than third. Stormont was never out of the ruck in his race.

The Southland Club’s clock was used far starting tho trotting race. Per United Press Association* Tho South Canterbury autumn meeting opened to-day in dull weather, which later turned into heavy rain. There iwos a good "attendance. Tho totalisatoa* put through £3711, or £491 better than tho first day last year. Results : Rosowell Handicap.—Sahara, 7.7, 1 ; Jack Ashore, 7.13, 2 ; Fatuna, 7.11, 3. Scratched—Assegai. Won easily. £3 IGs and £3 ss. Hack Raco.—Sarsfield 1, Flavour 2, Nikolsky 3. Won comfortably. £lO 16s and £1 2s.

Cup.—‘Harvest, 7.2, 1 1; Lapland, 7.2, 2 ; Somateria, 6.7, 3. Scratched —Thunderer. A very fine finish, resulting in a neck, victory. £7 and £1 9s.

President’s Wdltor.—Post Card 1, Manjess 2, Sychcm 3. Mon by J length, £24 16s and £7 Ills. Trot.—Advance. 25scc, 1 : l£>dy Lilian, 9sec, 2 ; Kintoro, 25soc, 3. Won with great ease. As Lady Lillian was disqualified and Kintore and Advance wore bracketed, there urns only one dividend—£4 os. Waita,ki District Handicap.— Grosvenor 1, Sahara 2. Design 3. All started. "Won by a bare length. £3 9s and 12s.

Flying Handicap.—lmaginary 1. Sea King 2. Bitccletich 3. Zetland and Ardreigh wore scratched. Won by a neck. £5 4s and £3 15s.

SECOND DAY. The weather was beautifully line for the second day and the racing was ag’diu good, 3he machine handled £8926, the total for the meeting being £7636, an increase on last year's aggregate of £1823. Results Temuka Handicap. —Gypsobel, 7.9, 1 ; Merrymaker, 6.13, 2 ; Post Card, 9.2, 3. All started. Won easily, £6 3s and £0 14s. Hack Handicap.—Little Medallist, 7.7, 1 ; Sarsfield, 9.3, 2 ; Flavour, 8.7! 3. All started. Won easily. £4 Gs and £1 7s. Autumn Handicap.—Harvest, 8.4, 1; Lapland. 7.9, 2; Manjcss, 7.13, 3. Rosebloom and Thunderer were scratched. Won splendidly. £8 18s and £1 16s. Stewards' Welter.— Tessera, 9.2. 1 ; Curiosity, 8.2, 2 ; Ruapehu, 8.0, 3. All started. £3 12s and £2 11s. Seadown Trot. —The Article, 21 sec I ; Nellie H, 18scc, 2 : Dummy, 23 sec, 3, disqualified. Scratched—Elvaston, Red Rothschild and Golden Lake. Dummy won easily, but was disqualified for inconsistent trotting. The £440 on the “tote" has been impounded, pending an appeal. Rangitata Handicap.—Grosvonor, II 0 1 ; Clementine, 10.13, 2 ; Narrangorrio, 8.12, 3. .Scrahchbcl-Sa-hara. A groat finish.
