At the Police Court to-day Thomas Wallace, alias Williams, and John Baxter wore charged with conspiring with two 'other men to defraud James Chapman. Certain games were suggested and played ; money was produced, and cheques were signed in a more or less reckless way, the upshot being that, at the end of it nil, Chapman was without his money and had also lost £4O of his brother’s funds.

The hearing of the case had not concluded when the court rose for the day.
