Southland Times, Saturday, 16th February. Outs.—So far none of the now crop is offering, though it is reported that threshing is going on iu small lots ini tire Weetorti District. The only business passing at present is in small lyts of last year’s grain, which are being; sold to the North Island buyers at 2s sdj f.0.b., si., U grade. This ia equivalent to 2e 2d, .0.t.u.c.5., to fanners. It Is difficult tp, say how the market for*, the new season’s ci'op will open, but tire general impression is that it will follow Canterbury, and open somewhere about 2s, o.t.u.c.s. Reports coming to hand indicate that samples are likely to be good, the grain being well filled and very bright In colour. The bulk of it will be threshed out of stook. Chaff.—The market is exceedingly firm. £4 to £4 ss, o.t.u.c.s-, being given, and there is a very good demand. Farmers im.vH cut a fair quantity of tho new season's crVp on the green sUle, anticlpating that high prices will rule tor draft tiris year. There is good enquiry for forward delivery', but as yet no sales liave been made.

Ryegrass.—The market is booming, and as high as -is 6d, 0.t.u.c.5., has been paid for perennial. Taken all round, the samples are exceedingly goefd. being very’ free from sorrel. Italian has also risen iu price, and values rule from 4s 2d to 4s 3d, though an exceptional line of COO bags was placed ’during the week at ‘ls 4sd. With the demand from tho north, merchants have practically cleared out nil last season’s stocks, nud stores arc now pretty empty. Wheat— little is tlbing- in wheat, though any lino of fow'l feed available is readily placed at 3a. o.t.u.c.s. Potatoes—The market is not. yet open, but there are any quantity of enquiries from the north wanting instant delivery, but as yot no business has been made on any large scale. it is reported that several lines have been purchased at. £4 o.t.u.c.s. Sheep.—Very little is doing in the stock market outside fat wethers and lambs. The former are telling from 17s to IPs Rd, and the latter from 14s to 14s Gd. There Is a very strong demand, and numerous buyers are scouring the country. Lambs for fattening act also in toqtrese from 10s Od to It's 6d. Cattle—Beef can be quoted at 24s per tOOIh. Other lines of cattle arc very bnod ro place.
