The Abattoirs
At. the meeting of the Borough Council last evening the following letters were read April 20th, 190«. Tho Mayor and Councillors of Invercargill. Sirs, —The following appears in this morning’s Southland Times under the' heading "Mr Kyle’s statement," in which, evidently owing to a question asked by Councillor Bain, it is stated " As to the 'coal, he Mould in tho morning produce ! duplicate receipts from the Nightcaps | Coal Co. to show that he had paid his .proportion.” We don’t know what this (means, but if it refers to any trucks of eoa.l consigned from time to time from I Nightcaps to the borough abattoir sid- ' ing we have no means of knowing what 'is dune with the coal after it leaves j Nightcaps.—W. Handyside, Manager.” j April 20lli.—To 11. S. S. Kyle, Ksq.— Ipeai- Sir.— deferring to our name in this (morning’s Times in connection with cool, ! which we have already replied to by letter to the Mayor and Councillors . . ■ j we have to state that on 10th January, i ]OOU, truck coal MCOI, I tons 2 cwt 20 jqrs, was consigned from Nightcaps to the i borough abattoir in the Usual way; (amount. £.l Is Sd, On the lath, 5 days (later, Mr Kyle, j.c., yourself, came in 'and said the truck was for himself and pail fer it, as the cash book and journal both show " per B. S. S. Kyle, £3 Is 3d.” Wu rang up the Town Clerk’s Office and told Mr Walker and he replied i that he knew 'about it and had struck it oat of Ihe '.mrongdi voucher. Wo then asked if we would make out a fresh voucher, ami he said it was not necessary, ns he had fixed it up.—'W. Handyside.” The letters were referred to tiro Abattoir Committee.
